 This rock formation is located on the mountain ridge above Kahana Bay on the Windward Coast. Ancient Hawaiians said it was Kupua, a relative of Pele, who wished to follow Hi'iaka (Pele's sister) but was turned to stone. The Hawaiians, having never seen a lion, thought this rock formation was a large headed dog. Later, westerners named the rock "Crouching Lion".
On the left is the Crouching Lion restaurant. From the street edge of the parking lot, look above and to the left of the restaurant at the rock formations to find the "Crouching Lion".

These sites are sacred to the Hawaiian people and should be treated with the utmost respect. Do not move or remove anything from these sites. Do not climb or walk on the rock walls and platforms. |

From Waikiki: go down McCully toward the mountain. Go over H1 and follow signs to H1 west. Once you are on H1, take Likelike Highway through the mountains. After you go through the mountains, get onto Kahekili Highway Northbound. You will see a sign for the "Crouching Lion Inn" |
