Goat Island is a pancake shaped lava rock a few yards off the coast of the Malaikahana Recreation Area. The center of the island is a restricted refuge area for ground-dwelling birds raising their young. The waters surrounding the island are great for snorkeling. There are tide pools, perfect for observing small sea life, and a sandy beach studded with coral formation and shallow water.

Only go to the island during low tide! Strong currents and rip tides are present during high tide.
Walk to the island over a shallow reef from Cooke's Point - wear sneakers to protect your feet from rock and coral - the walk takes approximately 15 minutes
Keep out of the bird refuge area in the center of the island. This area is clearly posted.
Hiking the entire shoreline takes approximately 20 minutes.
Do not leave anything behind on the island. |
