When the surf is calm, this is a superb beach for swimming. However, when the surf is up, this beach can be treacherous due to the shorebreak and rip tide currents. Experienced bodysurfers find that the waves here have no equal any where else on the island.

Shorebreak and rip tide currents during high surf. Do not swim in front of Keawaakio Cove due to rip tide currents even during calm surf. Be careful around the Point during low tide due to a jut of lava where waves can pound you into the rocks. Always check with the lifeguards regarding conditions. Obey all postings and warnings.
