Hike through the spectacular Haleakala Crater – experience it’s grandeur, majesty and vastness! Haleakala Crater’s subtle energy is intense and ethereal, and it’s absolutely silent. You may choose from the following 8 and 4 mile hike options:
8-Mile Hike: Hike along a spectacular trail overlooking the north side of Haleakala with canyons dropping 2,000 to 3,000 feet, with panoramic views of the ocean on one side, and the crater on the other. Descend to the crater floor 1,600 feet along a series of well-built switchbacks. Views stretch for a hundred miles, from cloud forests and rain forests to the alpine desert within Haleakala itself. On the crater floor, pass huge slabs of lava and bizarre rock formations. After Lunch, return back up the switchbacks. Rated: Strenuous, 8 miles.
4-Mile Hike: Journey part way down both the switchback trail at 8,000 feet and the summit trail at 10,000 feet. Although never reaching the crater floor, the volcano’s power and silence is experienced, and magnificent views are observed from the vantage point up high. This hike is called the “Crater Sampler”, and gives a true feeling of the crater without being strenuous. Rated: Moderate, 4 miles.
The Menu: Your choice of either a turkey sandwich or a vegetarian garden burger, plus lots of organic fruit – bananas, pineapple, papaya and whatever else is in season.
