This is a wonderful beach for the family. It isn't very crowded and has good facilities.
At the south end of the beach, there is excellent snorkeling, and good diving a bit further out. At the north end of the beach there is decent snorkeling, but it is a bit shallow for diving. Straight out into the bay, from the Maui Prince Resort, about 1/3 of a mile in 60 feet of water, is a sunken WWII halftrack and tank. This is a good scuba diving site when the currents aren't ripping. Don't try to find it on your own, it is difficult to spot from the surface and the currents can be very swift. Go to a dive shop and ask to dive the "halftrack" or "tank", they should be able to get you there.
When the waves are crashing on to the beach stay out of the water. There can be strong currents several hundred yards out from the beach, don't get caught in them (or the next stop is Fiji). When the wind is ripping the currents are very strong. There have been break-ins at the parking lots but generally this is a safe beach. There is an occasional security patrol.
The parking lot near the church is a bit of a walk from the beach, and somewhat isolated from view. In the past this is the most vunerable parking lot of the two.

There are no facilities at the actual north end of the beach. There are showers and restrooms at the parking lot across the street from the church.
At the south end of the beach there are picnic facilities, showers and restrooms. There are no lifeguards at this beach. There are telephones located at the Maui Prince Hotel.
