 Koke'e State Park is located at a 4,000 foot elevation atop Waimea Canyon ridge. The park encompasses 4,345 acres of land and has over 45 miles of trails. A 20-square mile highland bog is known as the Alaka'i Swamp and is a unique experience.
The park is home to many rare birds, many are the only ones of their kind, that live in the 'ohi'a and sandalwood trees that grow here. The swamp area is home to the rare alpine plants and native land mammals, such as the hoary bat.
The Koke'e Museum serves as the visitor center for the park and has books and information about hikes, guides, and tours of the area. The park stages the Banana Poka Festival every May and the Eo e Emalani I Alaka'i festival every October.
